A West Cork Story of Silence, Loss and Healing
Every family carries stories — some spoken, some hidden, and some that live on silently through generations.
In February 1922, Clare Keany’s grandfather and uncle were shot in Clonakilty during one of the most turbulent periods in Irish history.
What followed was not just loss, but silence — a silence that travelled across generations and shaped lives in ways that were never spoken.
Clare has spent over four decades on a journey of recovery and healing, including 41 years of sobriety and a Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology.
This work is her way of giving voice to what was once unspoken — and returning her family’s story to the place where it began.
Echoes Through the Generations is a storytelling project exploring how trauma moves through families and across time.
Clare is returning to Clonakilty to research, write and develop a talk or performance rooted in history, memory and healing.
Support is being sought for a two-month residency in Clonakilty.
